5 signs your hotel website is quietly losing direct bookings

~2 min readBy the Thai Webstudio team

Most guests decide on their phone, in just a few seconds. When a small hotel or guesthouse site makes that decision even slightly harder, the guest doesn't email you — they tap back to the OTA they came from. Here are five signs it's happening, and what each one quietly costs.

1. Your site is slow on mobile

If a room page takes more than two or three seconds to load on mobile data, many guests are gone before they see a single photo. Test your own site on your phone, on 4G — not the office Wi-Fi.

2. The room choice isn't obvious

A guest should see, right from the first screen, how your rooms differ. If they have to hunt, compare, or guess, they drift back to the tidier room list on the OTA.

3. Contact and booking are hidden

Direct booking only happens when the next step is obvious. A visible "book direct" or LINE button on every screen — not buried in a menu — is the difference between an enquiry and a guest who quietly leaves.

4. There's no reason to book direct

Guests already know the OTA; they don't yet know why to book with you. One short, straightforward line — a direct-only rate, a small welcome extra, more flexible check-in where you can offer it — gives them a reason. No need to overclaim; just a real, specific benefit.

5. Your site, Facebook, and LINE don't look like one brand

If your page, your site, and your messages look like three different businesses, guests start to hesitate. A consistent name, colours, and voice across all three is what makes a small property look established.

None of these need a rebuild — many can often be sorted in a few hours. If you'd like, we can open your site on mobile and point out which of the five is most likely pushing guests away from booking direct.
